If you’re looking for a long activity, they regularly run kids workshops suitable for those aged 5-15 years (including DIY Natural Products, and Kids Farmers Programs), which will keep the kiddos occupied for six hours. Finally, pick up a map and take a FREE self-guided walk through the farm, discovering macadamia forests, beehives, pigs, sheep, orchards, and sprawling grounds along the way. The Sanctuary houses over 100 incredible Australian wildlife animals (including kangaroos, birds, reptiles, snakes, crocodiles, Manda the wombat and Arnie the koala). The Lord Byron’s Spa & Heated Pool

Our General Manager Jess and her family stayed at The Lord Byron during Covid, and by far the biggest hit with the kids was the hotel’s heated swimming pool and spa! During winter particularly, the spa is a super warm space for the children to splash about and gaze up into the stars in the evening. The heated swimming pool provides endless entertainment for the kids, while the adults can relax on the sun loungers and order drinks to be delivered.

Did you know? In addition to the heated swimming pool and spa, The Lord Byron’s hotel facilities also include a tennis court, undercover cabana with BBQ facilities, a large indoor games and lounge room, complimentary car parking, and complimentary bike and surfboard hire.

Op Shopping & Vintage Clothing Stores

Meander through Byron Bay’s streets in the town centre, and you’ll pass by many an op shop and vintage clothing stores. Take it from our General Manager Jess, whose teenage daughter loves checking out all of these different shops! An extra bonus is that this kind of shopping is more affordable (and sustainable!) than shopping in the branded boutiques.

Fish & Chips On The Beach

Grab some fish and chips (or simply just some hot chips!) on Main Beach and chillax as a family on the grassy area or on the sand. There is a park here for the little ones, and usually a busker playing live music, which the kids love! Afterwards, take a few steps back onto Jonson St as a family to grab a gelati from Bella Rosa. This is a perfect day or sunset activity for ‘chill time’ with the kids.

Family-Friendly Beaches

Babies, toddlers, kids, teenagers, adults… everyone loves the beach! For the safer, family-friendly beaches, the closest option is Main Beach which is surf patrolled and just a 10-minute walk from The Lord Byron. Wategos Beach and Clarkes Beach are other great options. While away the day building sandcastles, collecting beachy treasures, having fun in the sea, and soaking up the brilliant Byron atmosphere.

Budget-friendly tip: There is a Woolworths supermarket 1-minute walk away from The Lord Byron Hotel. Stock up on picnic goodies and take these to the beach with you.

Brunswick Heads Fairy Trail

If you have a fairy-loving child, then make sure you include the Brunswick Heads Fairy Trail on your holiday to-do list. This is a completely free activity, that is so precious to do with the kids. There are a number of lovely little fairy houses hidden in interesting locations around Brunswick Heads, and the children get such a joyful surprise upon discovering each fairy house. Each house has a fairy who delivers a positive message about living simply, being kind, being loving and protecting nature. Collect the Fairy Trail Map from the Brunswick Heads Visitors Centre.

Newrybar Mini Village

Located behind Harvest in Newrybar, the Newrybar Mini Village is the most adorable set up allowing your child’s imagination to run wild. There are a number of super-cute cubby houses for role play, and plenty of space for running around. And the best part is that this area is completely free. Grab yourself a coffee from Harvest Deli while you’re there, or pop into the cafe afterwards for lunch. Check out @newrybarmerchants for any special events happening at the Mini Village (like morning Story Time).

Nature Play at Bangalow Weir Playground & Park

Bangalow Weir Parklands and Playground provides the most gorgeous setting for outdoor nature play. Slides both big and little, climbing equipment, swings and a seesaw are some of the playful highlights. There is ample space for car parking, as well as a big grassy area, toilets, shade, and BBQ facilities. Being so close to Bangalow’s main street, you’re also just moments away from a well-deserved coffee.

Byron’s Markets

There are many markets taking place throughout Byron Bay and its surrounding towns regularly each week. Often with live music, interesting crafts, and a super laid back atmosphere, they are a great experience for the kids. We especially think they’ll love the Bangalow Market and Byron Community Market. See our quick guide to Byron’s markets for more details on each.
